Meas successfully recertified for a further three years

BILD recently carried out their three yearlyÌýreviewÌýofÌýourÌýMeas programme, and we are pleased to announce thatÌýweÌýhave been successfully recertified for a further three years.ÌýÌý

Meas (which is a Scots Gaelic word meaning ‘respect’) isÌýourÌýbehaviour support training programme for all colleagues working in residential or education support roles.ÌýItÌýis externally certified by the British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD Act) according to the Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) training standards.ÌýÌý

Version 2 of Meas was launched in 2025,Ìýincluding aÌýnew manual,ÌýpresentationsÌýand resources, with a focus on trauma informedÌýpracticeÌýand feedback from colleagues on theÌýnew versionÌýhas been outstanding.Ìý

The RRN Standards are internationally recognised and endorsed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), focusing on reducing unnecessary restrictive practices and improving the quality of support across health, social care, and education.ÌýÌý

TheÌýBILDÌýprocess paid particular attention to specific developments that have taken place since the last recertification in 2023:Ìý

  • Introduction and implementation of a Reducing Restrictive Practices strategy,ÌýresultingÌýin a considerable reduction inÌýrestrictive physical interventions.Ìý
  • Reduction ofÌýnon-physical restrictions such as environmental and blanket restrictions, with an emphasis on improving quality of lifeÌýoutcomes.Ìý
  • Introduction of and embedding a digital system for collecting,ÌýanalysingÌýand learning from incident data.Ìý
  • The integration of trauma informed approachesÌýintoÌýour training and practice models.Ìý
  • The development of the ServiceÌýDevelopmentÌýPractitioner role as a means of combining training delivery withÌýpractice leadership, including theÌýembedding of the colleague competency programme.Ìý

WeÌýhave also been selected as one of onlyÌýeightÌýorganisations nationwide to take part in aÌýsix monthÌýtrial for the new RRN Standards Version 2, which are due to be rolled out in 2027.Ìý

Angela Wood, Head of Therapeutic Lived Experience said, “It is a great achievement to be awarded certification forÌýthe thirdÌýtimeÌýand thisÌýdemonstratesÌýour commitment toÌýreducing restrictive practiceÌýandÌýpromoting safe and ethical approaches in all that we do.ÌýÌý

“We have come a long way over the last three years in terms of integrating trauma informed approaches, and it is wonderful to see this celebrated as part of this review. Furthermore, our continued passion to enable meaningful lives and support future developments to best practice is demonstrated through our participation in the trial of the new RRN Standards Version 2.

We are looking forward to contributing to this trial. Thank you to all our colleagues who have supported these great outcomes.
